Mitsubishi Materials Tools Lists Sharper Chip Breakers for Aluminum Processing

[Nikkei BP News Agency] Mitsubishi Materials Tool (Headquarters: Tokyo) listed the aluminum cutting insert "AZ chip breaker". There are 25 products including 55° diamond and 35° diamond. In terms of price, the 3.57mm thick "DCGT11T304-AZ" with a 55° diamond shape and an inscribed circle diameter of 9.525mm is 1869 yen (tax included).
In the cutting process of a non-ferrous metal such as aluminum, since the material to be cut has high ductility and it is difficult to control the direction in which the chips are ejected, there is a risk that the chip is wound around the processing machine and the tool. Further, since the material to be cut is easily welded to the cutting edge of the blade, the machined surface after cutting is rough, and the dimensional error of the workpiece is likely to become large. Therefore, this processing requires the use of sharper blades.
The AZ chip breaker achieves the reproducibility of the tool tip position required for high-precision machining by performing G-level precision grinding on the outer circumference of the insert. Since the edge of the tool tip is made sharp 7°, a high quality machined surface is obtained. In addition, the curved cutting edge and curved chip breaker bottom are optimized for aluminum machining, enabling precise control of the flow and discharge of the chips. The blade material uses the highly versatile superhard material "HTi10". It can be used from pure aluminum to aluminum alloy.
