The wind power industry chain has expanded into a trend. Datang Group is not the first developer involved in the manufacture of wind turbines. Guodian United Power, a subsidiary of Guodian Group, the third largest power generation company in China, signed a technology import agreement with Aerodyn in November 2006. Engaged in the production of wind turbines, it has now become a manufacturing enterprise with more than 3,300 employees and an annual output of over 2,000 fans. The cooperation model between Datang and Hyundai Heavy Industries is similar to that of Guodian.

The expansion from upstream to downstream of the wind power industry chain is only part of the extension of the wind power industry chain. Recently, SANY Electric Co., Ltd., engaged in the manufacture of wind turbines, has just signed an investment agreement for the development of a 300,000 kilowatt wind farm project in Suixi County, Hunan Province. The planned total investment is 3 billion yuan*** and the installed capacity is 300,000 kilowatts. Wind farms, this marks the Sany Electric Company formally entered the development of wind farms.

The vertical integration of wind power industry is the most comprehensive of gold wind technology. This veteran wind turbine manufacturer has involved in wind turbine manufacturing, wind farm development, fan parts supply, and even permanent magnet and other raw material production fields. Xie Changjun, general manager of Guodian Longyuan, told the China Energy News reporter: “After five years of rapid development, China Wind Power has shown a trend of integration of the entire industry chain, and Guodian has taken the lead.”

There are already international precedents for the extension of the enterprise. The whole industrial chain integration model is good or bad, and it cannot be generalized. The key is how to do it. From overseas experience, in the wind power industry, Spain's fan maker Gemeike has had a successful experience. Its public relations department Chen Xiaoqian told this reporter: “In Spain, Gemeyi is both a manufacturer and a developer.” Coming to cooperate with Longyuan Power in the world to jointly develop wind farms; in other industries, such as Barbie, the United States controls the most profitable link in the entire industry chain. Other generations of processing links are completed by Chinese private enterprises.

What is certain is that the vertical integration of the wind power industry is the result of market promotion. The government has not directly exerted any influence. It is entirely independent choice of the company.

Goldwind has extended its shareholding in Jiangxi Jinli Permanent Magnet to control the cost of its direct-drive permanent-magnet generators. Downward-made wind farms are familiar with wind farms and sales of wind turbines. Datang and Guodian's production of wind turbines, on the one hand, reduces the development costs of their own wind farms, on the other hand, they are optimistic about the profits of current wind turbine sales.

The key links in the industrial chain will become the focus of competition. Vertical integration is also the result of lessons learned by Chinese companies in the foundry model of mobile phones and toys. In the above industries, foreign monopoly giants have controlled the key links in the industry chain, such as development, design, logistics, and sales, leaving the thankless processing to Chinese companies and drawing high profits. Analyst Lang Xianping, an economist, analyzes that in the 21st century, enterprise competition is not product competition but competition in the industrial chain.

It is worth noting that the integration of the industrial chain is not "big and complete," and everything is done. Its core is the control of key links and higher profitability. China's wind power companies obviously have mastered the essence of them.

Xie Changjun told this reporter: “The trend of integration and elimination of China's wind power manufacturing industry has become apparent this year, and will enter the acceleration phase in the next two years.” Controlling the best companies in the key sectors of the industry chain will lead the next round of wind power development.
