Laser-based tool damage detection system

Renishaw has developed a TRS1 tool identification system based on laser technology using its tool recognition technology. The system recognizes tool breakage under high-speed cutting conditions. The application of precision lasers allows the system to detect small tools with diameters as small as 0.019" (about 0.5 mm) and the time required to detect broken tools is less than 1 second. The system is very versatile and suitable for use from large machining centers to small drilling machines. The various CNC machine tools are very compact. The size of the measuring head is 1.5′′ (width) × 2.87′′ (thickness) × 3.27′′ (height). The measuring head can be mounted on any rigid machine surface to monitor the tool. The measuring head can work from 12" to 79" (300 to 2000 mm).
