Researchers make graphene vigilant more practical

As silicon materials are approaching their physical limits, graphene is logically accepted as the successor to silicon materials. If you want Moore's Law to continue on graphene materials, then there is a problem that must be clarified - how can we effectively use graphene transistors? The graphene transistor has an incredible speed compared to the materials currently used; but there is also a terrible problem because - it cannot be "shut off". This is the problem if you try to switch the graphene material.

Fortunately, a research team led by Liu Guanxiong at the University of California, Riverside, claimed that they had come up with a practical high-tech solution.

In short, we should not treat graphene as a silicon material. Instead, Liu and his team used a different phenomenon called "negative resistance" to imitate the behavior of a collective tube.

They plan to create a standard graphene field effect transistor and determine the situation in which negative resistance needs to be induced. This creates a "dip in voltage", much like a transistor's switching behavior, which can be used to perform logical operations.

Of course, it takes a long time to develop in the real world, but this is at least a good start. In particular, 100GHz graphene transistors that IBM demonstrated in just a few years ago. Experts believe that silicon material still has at least nine years before the Moore's Law peaks.
