Scientists have found a formula that turns liquid cement into liquid metal, making it electrically conductive. Cement semiconductors are expected to be used in consumer electronics such as thin film resistors used in liquid crystal displays.
Researchers in the United States, Japan, Finland, and Germany used traditional methods to deform cement into metal, using a phenomenon called electron trapping to achieve conductivity.
The researchers first melted chalcedite at a temperature of two thousand degrees Celsius, then cooled to a glass-like amorphous state, and then captured the electrons in a special way. The free electrons trapped in the glass cage structure created metal-like conductivity.
